Officer cites abusive US interrogations in Iraq

By PAMELA HESS
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Iraqi prisoner had valuable intelligence, U.S. special forces believed, and they desperately wanted it. They demanded that expert American military trainers teach them the same types of abusive interrogation techniques that North Korea and Vietnamese forces once used against U.S. prisoners of war.

Washington’s False Logic of Torture

The Trial of Donald Rumsfeld
By RON JACOBS
Logic is a process whereby one makes an argument based on a premise.  If the premise is false, the process of logic can still prove it, albeit possibly not as easily or convincingly as a true premise.  Law follows the process of logic in deciding human guilt or innocence.  [...]

The awfully nice guys allowing US torture at Guantanamo Bay

The interrogation room in Guantanamo Bay, Christmas Eve 2002. Detainee 063 – an Al-Qaeda suspect called Mohamed al-Kahtani, who may or may not be that sought-after 20th 9/11 hijacker – is crying in his chair. It is [...]

Lies, damn lies and the Pentagon

By Amir Arfa, Press TV, Tehran
“Days later, Mr. Rumsfeld wrote a memorandum distilling their collective guidance into bullet points. Two were underlined:

‘Focus on the Global War on Terror - not simply Iraq. The wider war - the long war.’
‘Link Iraq to Iran. Iran is the concern. If we fail in Iraq or Afghanistan, it [...]

The Bush Team’s Geneva Hypocrisy

By Jason Leopold
Newly released U. S. government documents, detailing how Bush administration officials punched legalistic holes in the Geneva Convention’s protections of war captives, stand in stark contrast to the outrage some of the same officials expressed in the first week of the Iraq War when Iraqi TV interviewed several captured American soldiers.
Then, Defense Secretary [...]

CIA admits they will continue rendition program, which allows torture overseas

The Central Intelligence Agency knew from the beginning that its secret detention and torturous interrogation tactics probably bordered on illegal from the start, according to new documents identified through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

In a filing yesterday, the CIA said it had identified 7,000 pages of classified memos, emails and other records relating to [...]

Memos Detail U.S. Interrogation Methods (2002 Torture Memo)

From The Smoking Gun…
Rumsfeld approved use of dogs, clothing removal, hooding
JUNE 23–In a bid to counter charges that military leaders approved the torture of suspected al-Qaeda detainees, the Department of Defense yesterday released classified memos detailing the U.S. government’s evolving interrogation (or “counter-resistance strategies”) policies with regard to prisoners held at the [...]
