ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza left for the United States on Monday.
“The speaker has gone to the US on the invitation of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice,” sources in the National Assembly Secretariat told Daily Times.
During her five-day visit, Fehmida will join the Pakistani women parliamentarians who are already in the US, the sources said, adding that the parliamentarians included Firdous Ashiq Awan, Azra Fazal Pechuho, Khushbakht Shujaat and Tehmina Daultana.
The sources said the parliamentarians intended to meet Pakistani scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui but that “will be subject to approval by US authorities”.
