(Zaman Al Wasl)- A former female detainee in most brutal security branch in Syria told Zaman al-Wasl some of her torture memos and more about the systematic rape for activists.
Om Ahmed, a 37-year-old widow, her husband was killed in the battles of Southern Damascus, where she stayed to support the fighters, who in turn looked after her and treated her as a sister.
In her way back home from a visit to her brother in Kiswa, she was arrested by regime’s security forces, and then had been moved to al-khatib detention center (Interior Security Department).
She stayed for 3 months in prison where she went through unforgettable experience. “They burned women’s bodies with hot poles, while hanging them on “the Ghost” from hands for hours was a regular practice,” Om Ahmed said.
The former detainee mentioned that she was subject to tough torture, as security members wanted information about the rebels and their details and places. “They used to drop cold water on my head and body, then hit me, I was hanged from my hand many times on “the Ghost” and tried to humiliate me. However the torture I received was not comparable to what other women had had”.
“An officer broke my finger by closing the door on it, all I remember they called him Ali, but I cannot remember his face, as we were not allowed to look at officers’ faces” painfully detailed. Om Ahmed mentioned that security members tended to rape virgins and many times a girl got raped by many.
Om Ahmed reported that a 19-year-old girl from Southern Damascus suffered from heavy bleeding because of frequent rape she was subject to. “Doctors visited the prison in cases of bleeding after rape, I met doctors, one was good man as he transferred girls to hospitals, while another was tough a cruel swore to girls and women” Om Ahmed detailed.
The former prisoner reported that a woman got pregnant and hours later she was taken away and no one knows her fate. Om Ahmed confirmed that girls as young as 10 years were in the prison, and they were subject to similar torture. The woman said that security members used to cooperate with “Shabiha” to provide them imprisoned girls for amounts of money.
Om Ahmed was transferred to Sasaa’s prison and stayed for 20 days, where she received tough torture and humiliation, where security members described us as “treasons, and told us that the military boots had more honor than us.
“Sasaa’s prison is for adults and old women, while girls and young women do not stay there for longer than two days and disappear later, no one knows about them afterward,” she concluded.
