Prisoner Sharawneh Resumes his Hunger Strike

FD Editor’s Note: I’m glad he’s protesting again, and I am beginning to think we should do it in solidarity.  I had a terrible feeling that this was going to happen when they did the Shalit deal.  I had a feeling that they’d go back and re-arrest some prisoners, but even still I was horrified to see that I was correct.  Why is the United States of America still supporting Israel when they do low-down dirty tricks like this?  Remember that your tax dollars are going to the same government who was so deceitful.  You have the right to demand an end to this support.  Write your representatives.  They work for you.

Tuesday 22nd January, the Palestinian prisoner Ayman Sharawneh resumed his open hunger strike that was suspended

several weeks ago due to a very serious health deterioration and while awaiting trial.

Minister of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, Issa Qaraqe, said Tuesday that the resumption of the strike came due to the fact that Israeli authorities are deliberately delaying the deliberations in Sharawna’s case.

Al-Sharawneh launched an open hunger strike that lasted for more than five months, protesting against his re-arrest after he was released in Shalit’s swap deal in 2011.
