Zero Dark Thirty: Former Guantanamo Guard Reacts To Torture Scenes (VIDEO)

Former Guantanamo guard Brandon Neely came on HuffPost Live Tuesday to discuss his reactions to the torture scenes in the critically acclaimed and controversial film about the hunt for Osama Bin Laden, “Zero Dark Thirty.” While on air, he also discussed his own experiences with torture while serving at GITMO.

“I think the thing the film doesn’t portray — a lot of people don’t realize — is the effect torture has not only the people being tortured but the effect it has on the guards that actually took part and witnessed it,” Neely told HuffPost Live host Marc Lamont Hill.

Neely went on to discuss his time in Iraq and the U.S. government in general: “I risked my life for five years and went to Iraq and fought a war that was based on lies. I was sent to Guantanamo and told everyone was a terrorist — that was a lie. So, basically, for five years, I gave my best to my government and all they did was lie to me.”
