Yafie’ Tribe Declare Solidarity With Bagram Prisoner Amin al-Bakri
The Yafie tribe of al-Dalie has asked President Ali Abdullah Saleh to use his constitutional commitments towards all Yemeni citizens to secure the release of their kinfolk’s member Amin al-Bakri from the United States’ Bagram prison in Afghanistan.
The Yafie tribe issued a statement over the arrest and detention of al-Bakri since 2002, saying that he was kidnapped by the Americans from Thailand and smuggled to Bagram prison. They called on all the Yemeni people to support them over the release of their son.
The Yafie chiefs and those who back them said that al-Bakri is innocent and the continuation of his detention opens all options before them to pressure the Americans for the release of him and other Yemeni detainees.
They said that they formed a committee to meet the Vice President Abdo Rabo Mansur Hadi and then the President.
Yafie Chief, Sheikh al-Homaiqani Yafie, spoke in a meeting held in Sana’a describing the detention as arbitrary, according to the UN Geneva Detention Office, which issued a resolution stating that al-Bakri’s detention is illegal because he was detained outside the war’s jurisdiction, which makes him out of the concern of all authorities.
Ali Mohammed al-Yazidi, the general secretary of the Nasserite organization, said that Yafie clan will resort to all peaceful procedures to free their kin member, however if they came to a deadlock they will use all possible measures against American interests and citizens.
Ahmed Mohammed Arman of Hood human rights organization, spoke of the grim conditions that the prisoners of Bagram and Guantanamo are experiencing, because they are suffering psychological and physical torture, adding that the Americans failed in trying these prisoners in their territories for the lack of evidences against them.
He explained that the role of their organization is to expose the American’s secret detentions, the CIA operations and push for closure of the Guantanamo Bay Prison.
Additionally they want to expose the American and NATO bombardments to civilians in Afghanistan demanding securing detainees’ rights and the release of those detained without charges. They asked for al-Bakri’s file and the other Yemeni detainees in Bagram to demand their release.
